Wrapping front doors: a new look for uPVC and aluminium doors
A weathered, scratched or mismatched front door does not have to be replaced. With self-adhesive exterior foil by RENOLIT and Continental it gets a new surface in one day – in anthracite, wood look or matching your windows. Which front doors can be wrapped?
What matters is a smooth, firm and clean surface – the material is secondary.
uPVC front door
The ideal substrate: the same foils are laminated onto PVC profiles at the factory.
Aluminium front door
The foil adheres to powder-coated or painted aluminium if the coating is intact and free of grease.
Side doors and side panels
Side entrance doors, side panels, fanlights and door frames can be wrapped to match the front door.
Painted metal door
Smooth, painted steel or metal doors as well as smooth garage doors.
Timber door
Only if the surface is smooth, closed and firm – not on open-pored or moving timber.
Not suitable
Rough, porous, flaking or heavily textured surfaces – the foil will not hold permanently there.
Which foil for the front door?
For door leaves we recommend the 1000 mm wide roll; for frames, panels and side panels 100 to 500 mm is enough.
Anthracite grey RAL 7016

Golden Oak

How much does it cost to wrap a front door?
For a standard front door of about 1.0 × 2.1 m, one length of the 1000 mm wide foil covers the outside. The minimum of 3 m costs from €212.13 incl. VAT depending on the decor, plus €9.99 shipping – about €222 of material. For both sides of the door, plan 5 m.
If you have the front door wrapped, you also pay for the installer’s labour. The installer will quote this directly.

Wrapping your front door yourself in 4 steps
Prepare
Remove old foil residue, smooth scratches with 120/220/400 sandpaper and clean with the RENOLIT window frame cleaner.
Cut
Cut the foil with a 2–3 cm overhang per side. On doors with panels, wrap each surface separately.
Apply and press on
Ideally take the door off and lay it flat, peel off the release paper gradually and press the foil on from top to bottom with a felt squeegee.
Edges and final pressing
Wrap the foil around the edges, warm slightly in cold conditions, trim the overhang. Rehang the door only after 24 hours.

How long does a wrapped front door last?
The foils are designed for permanent outdoor use and are UV-resistant. How long the bond lasts depends mainly on the preparation: a clean, grease-free, firm substrate and firmly pressed edges.
Does the door have to be removed?
No, but a door lying flat is easier to wrap neatly. Frames and side panels are wrapped in place.
Can I remove the foil later?
The foil is bonded for permanent use. If you want to redesign the door later, it can be peeled off with heat and adhesive residue removed with the window frame cleaner.
Can I wrap the front door inside and out?
Yes. Each side is covered separately, even in different decors – for example anthracite outside and white inside.
