If the film on your window frame has faded, been scratched or started to lift, the profile is simply wrapped again – there is no need to replace the windows. The most common damage
When the film on a window frame lifts
On older uPVC windows the factory coating gives way first at edges, corners and welds: the film lifts, cracks or fades on the weather side. The profile underneath is usually perfectly sound – only the top layer is affected.
Whether uPVC windows, a front door or an aluminium profile: small scratches are touched in with a colour-matched touch-up pen. Where the film has faded over a large area, cracked or lifted, the profile is wrapped again completely.
The windows themselves do not need replacing. Our RENOLIT and Continental films are the same ones the window manufacturers use, so the decor matches exactly in most cases. With the right repair film the frame is even again and looks as good as new.
When to renew the film on a window frame
- The coating on the uPVC window is lifting at corners and welds
- Faded weather side while the north side is still intact
- Scratches after an attempted break-in, a house move or installation work
- Yellowed white on old uPVC windows
- Colour change from white to anthracite RAL 7016 or a woodgrain
- Wrapping a front door, garage door or aluminium window to match the frame

Which width do I need to wrap window profiles?
All window frame foils are cut to the metre to your requirement. The minimum order depends on the width. Measure the developed width of the profile, not just the visible face.

How it works
Wrapping window frames in three steps

Identify the decor
If you know the film number, enter it in the search field above. If not, a sample for comparing the decor helps – 0.99 € per sample, free delivery.

Choose width and length
Measure the width of the profile, add up the running metres and round up generously – for corners, overlap and offcuts. We cut to the metre, from 3 or 5 metres depending on the width.

Apply cleanly
Clean and degrease the surface, lay on the film and press it down with the squeegee. The instructions for wrapping window frames with film show every step.
For mitres and edges there are colour-matched touch-up pens; cleaner and squeegee are in the accessories.
Questions and answers
Frequently asked questions about window frame foil
Does self-adhesive window frame foil hold up outdoors?
Yes. RENOLIT and Continental films are developed for weather-exposed components and remain UV resistant for the long term. They are the same films used in the manufacture of uPVC window profiles.
Can I stick the new film over the old one?
Yes, but only on a flat surface. The texture of the old film has to be removed first, particularly on woodgrain decors with a pronounced grain. If the pores remain, air is trapped between the old and the new film; in strong sunlight it expands and a bubble forms. Remove loose sections and flaking edges as well, then clean and degrease – repair film only holds permanently on a smooth, clean surface.
Can you wrap window frames yourself, and which width do you need?
Yes, it is a job you can do yourself. For sashes and narrow profiles 100 mm is usually enough. To cover frame and sash in one pass, take the 180 mm standard roll. Wide mullions, transoms and outer frames need 200 mm. For window sills, garage doors and façade surfaces the film also comes in 500 and 1000 mm. Measure the developed width of the profile, not just the visible face.
How do I find out which window frame foil is on my windows?
The safest way is a sample held directly against the frame. One decor sample costs 0.99 €, delivery is free. Alternatively send us photos and we will identify the right film for you.
Can aluminium windows and front doors be wrapped too?
Yes. The film adheres to smooth, painted metal surfaces just as well as to uPVC. Besides windows you can re-cover front doors, garage doors, window sills, cladding sheets and other façade elements.
What does window frame wrapping cost?
The material price depends on the film width and the running metres and is shown on every item. We cut to the metre, the minimum order is 3 or 5 metres depending on the width. A decor sample ordered beforehand costs 0.99 €.
