Step by step
Tools for wrapping window frames
A self-adhesive window frame foil only holds as well as the surface it sits on. There is a suitable tool for every step – matched to the films from RENOLIT and Continental.
Clean and degrease
Degrease unfoiled frames with isopropanol 99.9 % – ideal when white uPVC windows are wrapped in a decor for the first time. Clean existing window frame foil with the window frame cleaner. The adhesive only reaches full bond on a clean, dry surface.
Press on the film
Use the squeegee to smooth the film from the centre outwards onto the profile contour. The felt edge glides over the decor surface without scratching it.
Trim cleanly
Cut off excess film at the glazing bead, seal and mitre with the utility knife. For a clean cut, snap off or change the blade in good time.

Cleaning and care
Window frame cleaner for foiled uPVC windows
Foiled window frames do not tolerate harsh all-purpose cleaners or scouring agents – solvent-based products can attack the decor surface and make it dull. Our window frame cleaners are suitable for rigid PVC profile surfaces and for PVC film laminations from RENOLIT and Continental.
They gently remove dirt, adhesive residue and the white streaks that are often left on the frame after installing new windows. The RENOLIT EXOFOL care set is available for regular care. You will find more tips in our guide Cleaning window frames.

Bubble-free application
Squeegee for film: felt squeegee or squeegee with felt edge?
A film squeegee presses window frame foil on evenly and pushes air out to the side. Which squeegee suits you better depends on the profile and how you work.
Squeegee with felt edge
Plastic squeegee with a felt edge: rigid enough for firm pressure on straight surfaces, while the felt side protects the decor surface. The right choice for most window profiles.
Professional felt squeegee
Made entirely of felt and therefore slightly more flexible. Ideal for rounded profile edges and delicate matt surfaces where every pressure mark would show.
Identify the decor
Colour fans from RENOLIT and Continental
A colour fan lets you match the decor directly at the window – colour, wood grain, gloss level and embossing. This is especially worthwhile if you are wrapping several windows, front doors or entire facade elements, or want to change the colour.
If you only want to check one specific decor, a single film sample for €0.99 is the cheaper option.

Frequently asked questions about accessories
Which tools do I need to wrap window frames?
At least a squeegee to press the film on, a sharp utility knife and a suitable cleaning agent: isopropanol for unfoiled white frames, the window frame cleaner for surfaces that are already foiled. If loose old film has to come off, you also need a paint scraper.
How do I clean foiled uPVC windows?
With a cleaner that is suitable for PVC film laminations and does not attack the surface. Scouring agents, cellulose thinners and solvent-based all-purpose cleaners are unsuitable for foiled window frames.
Why does the frame have to be degreased before wrapping?
Grease, silicone and cleaner residue prevent the film's adhesive from bonding fully. The film then comes loose at edges and corners first. On unfoiled uPVC frames, isopropanol 99.9 % evaporates without residue and leaves a clean bonding surface. If you are applying film over existing window frame foil, clean it with the window frame cleaner – prolonged exposure to isopropanol can damage the film.
How do I remove old film from the window frame?
Lift loose and cracked film flat with the paint scraper without cutting into the profile. Firmly bonded, intact film can stay if the surface is flat – a pronounced grain texture should be smoothed beforehand.
What do I need a colour fan for?
A colour fan shows all decors of a collection at a glance. This lets you identify the existing film on your window or choose a new decor. For individual decors, a film sample for €0.99 is enough.
